Frequently asked questions about the clothing

What clothes should I wear for the flight?

Before your flight, it's important to wear comfortable clothing. Opt for a comfortable pair of pants, a shirt, and a fleece sweater. If it's cold, you can also wear thermal leggings under your pants. Make sure to stay warm by bringing a warm winter coat. Keep your hat and mittens in your carry-on for easy access.

The Kittilä airport is small, so you only have to walk a short distance to the shuttle bus. However, you might have to wait a bit upon arrival at your accommodation before you get access, so it's smart to dress warmly.

When will I get the rented clothing?

The thermal suit and the shoes are available to you from Sunday afternoon until Saturday evening. You'll keep the suit with you the entire time, so you can also wear it during your free time if you decide to go on an adventure in the evening to spot the northern lights.

For certain activities, it's crucial to wear the suit, but the guides will always make this clear on-site. For example, it's important to wear the suit for the husky safari and the snowmobile tour. Because of the speed and sitting still, you can quickly get cold. It's also best to wear the suit during the northern lights expedition.

Do I need to bring my own ski jacket and pants?

Yes. You need to wear the thermal suit over your clothes, and it provides extra protection against the cold and wind. The thermal suit does not replace your own winter jacket and pants. In cold temperatures, it's best to also wear your jacket underneath the suit, and possibly your pants as well. The suit is intentionally looser than your regular clothing.

For certain activities like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, the suit can feel too warm quickly. If you start to sweat, that sweat can freeze, and then you'll get cold. That's exactly what you want to avoid. So for the hike and cross-country skiing, it's important to wear your own winter jacket and pants.

Which shoes should I bring?

If you rent thermal clothing, snow boots are included. These are waterproof, insulated, and suitable for the local climate.

Some travelers find snow boots feel bulky and prefer to bring extra shoes, like waterproof hiking shoes or sturdy ankle boots.

If you do not rent thermal clothing, it is important to bring waterproof and insulated shoes.

Can I change sizes on-site?

We offer shoes up to size 50. For thermal clothing, this goes up to size XXL. It's important that you provide your sizes correctly in your profile, so we can check and set aside the sizes in advance.

Please indicate the sizes you usually buy at home. Upon arrival, you'll have the chance to try on your thermal suit and shoes and possibly change sizes.
