Dive into a seven-day adventure in the heart of Finnish Lapland where you'll authentically discover the splendor of the Great North. Challenge yourself by exploring the vast snowy expanses on snowshoes, fat bikes, cross-country skis, and much more. Join a passionate outdoor group for a complete immersion in Nordic nature.

L'expédition

The expedition takes place in the south of the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park at the border between Sweden and Finland. Our base camp is located just outside the village of Akäslompolo.

During the expeditions, you will traverse the Finnish forests, hills, and plains in various local ways: on snowshoes, on cross-country skis, on ski-joering, and on e-fatbikes.

Never tried cross-country skiing? No worries, an introductory or refresher course is planned at the beginning of your stay! Our expeditions are open to everyone.

For those who want to dive deeper into Lappish culture, we also offer optional activities such as a dog sledding ride, a snowmobile excursion, or an evening sauna with a dip in the frozen lake of Äkaslompolo.

THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT US

The base camp

As a base camp for our expedition, we have chosen a typically Finnish wooden lodge, nestled among the spruce forests. You'll stay in rooms for 1 to 4 people. The bathrooms are shared. And each morning, you’ll kick off your day with a Finnish breakfast.

The base camp is ideally located for observing the Northern Lights. After a short 10-minute climb, you'll find yourself on a frozen marsh, the best spot around to admire the Northern Lights in all their glory.

Activities

In addition to the included activities, you also have the option to add extra activities to your expedition in Finnish Lapland.

The seven hills

In the north of Finland, at 67 degrees north latitude, there are seven legendary hills: the Seven Fells. These hills provide the perfect backdrop for our expedition.

In the region, there’s a legend about a magical fox named Tulikettu who roams the forests. When he runs on one of the hills and touches the snow on the trees with his flaming tail, snow crystals are launched into the air, lighting up the sky with a palette of magical colors - the Northern Lights! The Finnish word for Northern Lights is Revontulet, literally translated as "fire of the fox."

Programme

Below, you will find the planned weekly schedule. The order of activities may vary depending on weather conditions.

What level of fitness do you need to have?

The trip includes a good dose of physical activity, so good health and a basic fitness level are essential! Want to try a multi-day hike for the first time but have doubts about your physical abilities? We’re happy to help with the following questions:

Compensate for CO2 emissions?

The planet offers us so many beautiful things to admire, but if we want to continue doing so in the future, we must protect it starting today. That's why we're making extra efforts to reduce the impact of our travels, and you can reliably contribute to a climate project by Greentripper in the booking form, which offsets the CO2 emissions from your transport.

By contributing to their certified project “Wildlife Cambodia,” you help protect beautiful forests and the wildlife that lives there, support local communities, and reduce the CO2 emissions from your transport. If you choose to make a donation to offset your transport emissions, Travelbase will also contribute to offsetting emissions on-site. After your trip, you will receive an official carbon credit certificate.
