Äkäslompolo is a picturesque village in Finnish Lapland. It's characterised by the gigantic lake that's full of canoes and little boats in summer, but serves as a key point for cross country skiing routes and snowshoe hikes in winter.
You can find a big supermarket which is open 7/7 from 8am until 9pm, a karaoke bar, a lot of different, cosy restaurants and pubs, a lot of outdoor shops for those who forgot some gear and a typical sauna lodge at the edge of the lake, in which you can jump in it to cool down.
This region offers a lot more besides our included activities. You can go skiing on Ylläs mountain, go on a fat bike tour in the woods, try out cross country skiing or discover the environment on horseback.
The Finnish word for Northern Lights is Revontulet. Literally translated, this means "Fire from the fox". In the region around Äkäslompolo there's told a magical fox "Tulikettu" wanders. When he runs up one of the seven fells and he hits the trees with his burning tail, colourful crystals are shot into the sky. all these crystals together form a big, green wave: the northern lights!
